18th Edwaldo Camargo Symposium and 2nd CancerThera Congress host debates on innovative technologies and approaches in cancer in 2025

On April 4 and 5, 2025, the Cyan Convention Center in Itupeva (SP) will host two of the most important scientific events in the fields of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology in Brazil: the 18th Edwaldo Camargo Symposium and the 2nd CancerThera Congress.

Bringing together national and international specialists, these simultaneous events stand out for fostering the exchange of up-to-date knowledge on cancer diagnosis and treatment, focusing on multidisciplinary approaches and innovations in cancer theranostics.

Encouraging a collaborative environment, the planned sessions will allow professionals and researchers in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Radiopharmacy, Nuclear Medicine, Oncology, among others, to share experiences and scientific study results. In addition to lectures, attendees can participate in clinical case discussions and learn about the latest diagnostic and therapeutic developments in the field.

The event is organized by Elba Etchebehere (coordinator), Allan Santos, Celso Dario Ramos, and Mariana Lima, all nuclear medicine physicians and researchers from the CEPID CancerThera teams and the Nuclear Medicine Service of the Hospital de Clínicas at Unicamp. “The sessions we have designed for this edition will provide unique opportunities for professionals, researchers, and students from various health-related fields to discuss operational horizons and stay updated on the innovations guiding the future of cancer diagnosis and treatment,” highlights Etchebehere.

Special focus in 2025

The 18th Edwaldo Camargo Symposium will be dedicated to gastrointestinal tract tumors—high-incidence neoplasms that present a significant public health challenge—discussing the latest diagnostic techniques and corresponding therapies. In parallel, updates on preclinical and clinical research in Radiopharmacy, as well as training and education in the segment, will be addressed.

Invited speakers at the 2nd CancerThera Congress will present discoveries in basic, preclinical, and clinical research focused on Oncology and Onco-Hematology. One of the main themes of the event will be the application of technologies dedicated to theranostics, promoting greater precision and effectiveness in cancer patient care.

This year’s edition also features a unique aspect: an exclusive auditorium for oral presentations of scientific papers evaluated and approved by the scientific committee, in addition to works available for viewing in poster format. As in the previous edition, abstracts of selected papers will be published in a special supplement of the journal Hematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy (HTCT).

Program overview

With a comprehensive agenda, the first day of the 18th Edwaldo Camargo Symposium (Auditorium I) will feature lectures on esophageal, stomach, pancreatic, liver, and biliary tract neoplasms. Specialists will discuss the role of PET/CT in diagnosing and treating these tumors, presenting clinical cases and therapeutic approaches. The afternoon will include sessions on radioembolization in hepatic neoplasms and metastases. The morning of the second day will focus on colon and rectal neoplasms, highlighting new therapeutic approaches and the use of PET/CT in staging and monitoring patients.

Sessions dedicated to Radiopharmacy will have a reserved space (Auditorium II), where important updates on the use of radiopharmaceuticals in Oncology will be discussed. The program includes lectures on radioimmunoconjugates, the impacts of gastrointestinal diseases on cancer, and new preclinical research in theranostics. Experts will debate the development of alpha-emitting radiopharmaceuticals and the use of alternative preclinical models, such as the zebrafish (Danio rerio). On the morning of the second day, gastrointestinal tract cancer will be discussed, focusing on molecular targets for diagnosis and therapy, as well as applications of new theranostic radiopharmaceuticals.

The 2nd CancerThera Congress (Auditorium III) will host discussions on theranostic advances in Oncology. On the first day, the event will cover topics such as musculoskeletal sarcomas, melanoma, prostate, and colorectal tumors, with sessions dedicated to innovative treatment modalities and clinical cases. Discussions will involve immunotherapy, radiofrequency, and the use of PSMA-177Lu, highlighting the importance of this radiopharmaceutical in the theranostic management of these tumors. On the morning of the second day, sessions will focus on multiple myeloma and head and neck cancer.

An exclusive space (Auditorium IV) for Free Topics will be the major innovation this year: on both days of the event, there will be oral presentation sessions of papers previously evaluated and approved by the scientific committee, covering Nuclear Medicine, Radiology, Radiotherapy, Clinical Oncology, Onco-Hematology, Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Radiopharmacy, and Medical Physics. The program begins with the opening ceremony, followed by presentations where researchers and professionals from these areas will share their discoveries and experiences. There will be intervals for debate and networking among participants.

On the afternoon of the second day, all attendees from the simultaneous events will be guided to a single space (Auditorium I), where they will participate in a multidisciplinary session on gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and theranostic use, also addressing the application of Artificial Intelligence, dosimetry, the role of Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT), and new radiopharmaceuticals in treating these tumors.

To conclude, a social activity will be promoted for networking and celebrating new connections established.
