Principal investigator at CEPID CancerThera, Celso Dario Ramos is the newest member of Amazul’s scientific and technological committee

The recent meetings between the teams of CEPID CancerThera and Amazônia Azul Tecnologias de Defesa S.A. (Amazul), a company that supplies inputs for the Navy’s Nuclear Program (PNM), the Brazilian Nuclear Program (PNB), and the Submarine Development Program (Prosub), are already achieving good results.

Prof. Dr. Celso Dario Ramos, a nuclear physician, principal investigator, and deputy director of the executive committee of our center, is the newest member of Amazul’s Scientific and Technological Committee (ComCiTec). The committee is composed of experts from various fields who advise the institution’s executive board on matters related to innovation and technological excellence. Ramos was welcomed by Newton Costa, president and CEO of Amazul, during the 6th ComCiTec Meeting, held on March 26.

The integration was received with great enthusiasm by Ramos, who stated that he feels flattered and honored to share the committee’s responsibilities with highly qualified experts who possess deep knowledge of nuclear energy in Brazil. During the meeting, he gave a presentation about CEPID CancerThera and the activities carried out at the research center to the other members of ComCiTec. These members include: Aldo Malavasi, Carlos Alberto Aragão de Carvalho Filho, Laércio Vinhas, Leonam dos Santos Guimarães, Leonardo Dalaqua Junior, Patrícia Wieland, Rafael Faraone Rando, and Renato Machado Cotta.

In February of this year, a CancerThera delegation visited Amazul to assess details to be considered in the planning of the future physical facilities for the RadioChemistry research area at Unicamp. Ramos’ presence on ComCiTec fulfills a demand from Amazul itself to have a physician on the committee. For him, strengthening ties with the institution may contribute significantly to the development of research at CancerThera.

“It is the intention of Unicamp and Amazul to establish a broad cooperation agreement between them, involving researchers from the fields of Engineering, Physics, and Chemistry. In particular, I expressed our interest in developing cutting-edge RadioChemistry here at the university, and Amazul is in a position to support and contribute to this project, which will be fundamental not only for Unicamp and the state of São Paulo, but for the entire country,” highlights the researcher.
