On April 16, 2024, professors and researchers from the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and CancerThera met with representatives of the Brazilian Navy at the institution’s Directorate-General for Nuclear and Technological Development, located at the Navy Technology Center in São Paulo.
Among the representatives from Unicamp were Prof. Dr. Cristiano Torezzan, professor at the School of Applied Sciences (FCA) and advisor to the Rector’s Office; Prof. Dr. Renato Lopes, professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) and associate director of the Inova Agency; and Prof. Dr. Celso Dario Ramos, principal investigator and deputy director of the CancerThera executive committee. On the Navy’s side, Admiral Alfredo Muradas, Commanders Ulisses Welp, Marina Pires, and Ilka Rios, as well as Lieutenant Captain Leonardo de Jesus, attended in person, along with other officers participating remotely.
The meeting was dedicated to discussing potential partnerships between the Navy and Unicamp, focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence, technology transfer from these institutions to the private sector, and nuclear medicine. The Navy’s support for the establishment of the CancerThera Radiochemistry Laboratory was also discussed. During the meeting, it was agreed that the involved institutions would begin discussions aimed at launching pilot projects in various areas of mutual interest. This strategic collaboration could drive significant advances in research and development, fostering innovation and positive impact both in academia and in naval operations.
